Yanlai Yang

I am a second-year Ph.D student in Computer Science at NYU Courant, advised by Prof. Mengye Ren in the CILVR Lab.

Prior to joining NYU, I got my Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Applied Math at UC Berkeley, where I was fortunate to do research as part of the Robotic AI & Learning Lab, advised by Dr. Frederik Ebert and Prof. Sergey Levine.

I was a recipient of the Mark D. Weiser Excellence in Computing Scholarship and the Outstanding Student Instructor Award at UC Berkeley.

I am an enthusiastic bridge player. I have been playing this game for more than 15 years. I participate in various tournaments on a regular basis, including North American Bridge Championships (NABCs) and the ACBL Collegiate Bridge Bowl.

Starting Spring 2023, I ran an informal bridge course in the NYU Bridge and Spades Club, sponsored by Mitch Dunitz and the ACBL Educational Foundation.

Selected achievements:

03/2024: We won the 3rd place in the 0-10,000 Swiss Teams at the Spring 2024 NABC.
Team: Ziheng Yun (C), Zhiyu Cheng, Yanlai Yang, Nian Si.

07/2023: We won the finals of the 2023 Grand National Teams (GNT) Flight C! (Team photo on page 6) This is my first title in a national-level tournament.
Team: Jack Boge (C), Avery Silverstein, Jessica U, Yanlai Yang, Jingyang Ng.

07/2022: We won the 4th place in the 2022 Collegiate Bridge Bowl.
Team (representing UC Berkeley): David Gaddy (C), Krish Desai, Foster Tom, Zhenling Wang, Ziheng Yun, Yanlai Yang.

08/2016: We won the 3rd place in the 2016 Chinese High School Bridge Championship.
Team (representing Shanghai High School): Chenyu Zhu (C), Kai Jin, Jiawen Gu, Xinying Yu, Yanlai Yang, Tianle Liu.
